The Shooting Range, Thursday Morning

Because Alec was officially the most welcoming of all fake siblings ever, suck it Natalie Adams, no sooner had he met his new little sibling Kate yesterday than they had made plans to go to the shooting range today. And because Fandom had no shortage of professional arms models archers, they even had a judge lined up to oversee the proceedings. In the epic battle of recurve versus longbow, only the world's best archer could be the judge.

Because Clint definitely didn't have anything better to do on the week of his birthday than watch two teenagers shoot stuff, right?

So Alec and his recurve bow and Kate and her arms longbow made their way to the range, where Alec promptly swung his arms awkwardly and looked around. "So... how should we do this?"

[[up crazy early because so am I, la la la. for the archers, but open!]]

"You should definitely check out the YouTube videos of Olympic archery," she said. Kate probably wouldn't admit to how long she'd spent watching those. "It's kind of awesome and also totally hilarious how easy they have it with flags and stuff to tell them about wind speed and direction."

Real archers didn't need wind speed flags, dammit.

"They usually compete with distance or points," said the girl who'd learned how to shoot at summer camp. "Or we could just shoot the same number of arrows and see how it ends up."

Nah, it was cool. Kate didn't expect people with superpowers to know how to get by without them. That's how it worked, right?

"You go on. Lots of five?" she checked. And then, hey, they could keep going until they got bored. Or forever since who got bored doing this? Kate was kind of a dork about this one thing.

"That wasn't bad for a start," Clint said helpfully, from where he was quietly watching. Honestly, he was pretty impressed, but he also hadn't been sure what to expect when Alec had asked him to do this. Still, it was better than thinking about running his class tomorrow.

"That's hardly terrible. Lots of people would be perfectly happy for that for their best," Kate pointed out easily.

But she liked him more for thinking it was terrible. She'd think it was terrible for her too.

Kate grinned over at Clint. He'd seen her shoot before (or so she thought) but it was excellent to have someone else she knew here. (Or...so she thought).

She shouldered her bow, took a breath, and released her arrows smoothly, clustering all five around the bullseye. It was a rougher cluster than she'd like, but she'd go with it.

Of course he was.

"Excellent choice," she grinned. "Who wouldn't want one?"

"Holy sh--crap," Clint said, barely stopping himself from swearing, but damn, that was awesome. "Where'd you learn how to do that?"

"New York?" Kate said, cause clearly that was obvious.

Her attitude certainly said New York, that was for sure. "I guess that's one way to deal with tourists," he said with a smirk. "It's Kate, right? You're really good. I mean, both of you are." Sorry Alec, he hadn't forgotten about you, honest.

[identity profile] hawkeye-too.livejournal.com 2013-01-11 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, a lot of the smelliest tourists just don't get the message they're not welcome," Kate smirked back. "Thanks."

Her fingers closed on her bow, kind of weirded out by that whole thing too. Because while she could pretty much accept Billy from another timeline, Billy was magical and that made sense. Hawkeye seemed different. And not in the "come back from the dead and now dressing in black" sort of way.

"Yeah, I know Clint at home." There was another smirk. "Does that mean there's more than one of you? Because weird."

"I guess there is?" Clint said uncertainly. Sure, there were people from worlds like his, but he'd never brushed up against the timeline thing quite like this before. "Do we, uh, work together?" God, he hoped the other version of him wasn't dating her, or he'd get a reputation in every universe.

Please like she'd date someone old enough to be her...well, old enough to be Hawkeye.

"Not officially or anything," Kate said. Because she was a teenager and some people not Clint had big sticks up their butt about that still. "Just don't try to steal your bow back again. It's still mine now, and we've already done that."

But seriously, this was weird.

"I use every type of bow." Because SHIELD was awesome and gave Clint all the cool toys. "So I'm not going to steal anyone's bow because they're not mine. I don't think."

He was going to get a headache before this was over, wasn't he?

Re: Archer Versus Archer

[identity profile] hawkeye-too.livejournal.com 2013-01-11 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
But if headaches did result, Alec had to pay up on the pain pills. Seriously.

"Excellent use of logic there, Ha - Clint," Kate decided. And then because she was awesomely good about not using codenames really, she offered him her bow. "Your turn to shoot."

"I thought this was just going to be between the two of you," Clint said, but he took the bow anyway. "Are you sure?"

Re: Archer Versus Archer

[identity profile] hawkeye-too.livejournal.com 2013-01-11 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I can take it back if you really don't want to," she pointed out. Not that she expected to actually do that.

Yeah, Kate really did know Clint, because there was no way he was turning down an offer to show off. He took five of the arrows, got into place, and quickly fired them one after another into a tight cluster at the center of the bullseye.

"Yeah, this is a good bow," he said, smirking.

Re: Archer Versus Archer

"Yeah, I am," Clint said, because there wasn't much point in lying. "I should point out that I started doing this when I was younger than you are, and I'm twice your age, so I've had pretty much your entire lifetime of practice." Way to make yourself feel old, Clint. "It's the one thing I'm good at."

Re: Archer Versus Archer

[identity profile] hawkeye-too.livejournal.com 2013-01-11 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Give the bow back if you're going to be an idiot," Kate demanded.

She looked at Alec. "Clearly that's about the last part."
